Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
by Hayao Miyazaki

Original title: 風の谷のナウシカ (Kaze no Tani no Naushika)

A Studio Ghibli film

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is one of Hayao Miyazaki's first works, and, my opinion, one of his best.

Nausicaä on her Mehve
The story takes place in the far future where man has destroyed the Earth in "The Seven Days of Fire"; now only a small amount of humans survive, and the land is covered by a poisonous jungle called "The Sea of Corruption" which is spreading rapidly across the land and also threatens human survival. Huge insects called Ohmus guard the Sea of Corruption, along with various other insects. Several times humans have tried to destroy the toxic jungle, but this angers the Ohmus, who then attack blined by rage, and each time follows more destruction.
Nausicaä in the Sea of Corruption
Nausicaä, a princess from the Valley of the Wind, instead tries to understand the Sea of Corruption and the Ohmus, and forms an empathic bond with them. Meanwhile, a plan to destroy the Sea of Corruption once again merges, this time planning to use the ancient weapon that started "The Seven Days of Fire" that is believed to be extinct. Nausicaä is determined to stop the destruction before it's too late, and restore the bond between man and insects.
